,David Jason Hanks, 43, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on March 31, 2025, surrounded by the city he loved and lived life to the fullest in.
Born on March 30, 1982, in Oxnard, CA, to Lisa Brunger and David Hanks, David grew up with a fearless spirit and a boundless zest for adventure that defined him throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Oxnard High School, David went on to work with the Carpenters Union, where his strong work ethic and can-do attitude left a lasting impression. Most recently, he found his true calling as an ATV Tour Guide at Above All ATVs in Las Vegas, working for Jim and Kim Kelch. He loved what he did and it showed—guiding others through thrilling desert landscapes came naturally to him, and his joy was infectious.
David was more than just a thrill-seeker—he was the kind of man who made everyone around him want to be better. A local handyman and friend to all, he never hesitated to lend a hand to those in need. His loyalty, charisma, and sense of humor were unforgettable, and his smile could light up the room.
David lived life at full throttle. His motorcycle was his pride and joy, and he was often seen pulling off daring stunts with confidence and ease—wheelies, seat stands, you name it. The lake was his sanctuary, and boating brought him peace and happiness. Whether cruising on the water or ripping through trails on his ATV, David was always in his element, inviting others to join him, making memories wherever he went.
A devoted son, David shared many of his adventures with his beloved mother, Lisa—taking her on rides, boating trips, and to concerts, always ensuring she was part of the fun. David just built Lisa a beautiful ninja motorcycle and was teaching her to ride. One day Lisa told him she wanted to learn and David didn't think twice about teaching her. He had a heart of gold, filled with thoughtfulness and genuine care for others.
David was preceded in death by his Stepmother Alice Sarles, sister Rebecca Rose Hanks, Uncle Jeffrey Brunger, Aunt Michael Coughlin, cousin Tyler Hanks and his grandparents Billy and Dorothy Hanks.
He is survived by his loving mother, Lisa Brunger; father, David Hanks; and stepmother, Wendy Taylor-Hanks. He also leaves behind his sister, Rochelle Hanks, and brother, David Hanks.
David is survived by his grandparents, Mason and Sue Pam Heldt, and a wide circle of aunts and uncles including Vicki Hanks and Ruben Gomez, Vivian Berna, Danny Hanks, Ronnie and Lori Brunger, Jeff and Edie Wood, Shauna Brunger, and Kristina Brunger.
David was part of a large and loving extended family and is also survived by many cousins who cherished him deeply: Wesley Brunger Wood, Kali Coultas, Gavin Brunger, Cheyenne Brunger, Dakota Brunger, Ryan Brunger, Brittany Brunger, Jenna Grogan, Mitzi Berna, William Berna, Stephanie Berna, Jessica Berna, and Chrissy Gomez.
A Celebration of Life will be held in David’s honor on June 1st, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Oxnard Shores Beach Park. All are welcome to join us in remembering this incredible man who lived loud, loved deeply, and left a legacy of laughter, kindness, and adventure.
