Gayle Fleischer-Hurley Obituary

Gayle Lynn Fleischer-Hurley passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026 in North Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born in 1951 in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Northeast Ohio. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim Hurley who passed in January, 2026, and her parents William and Florence Fleischer. Gayle is survived by her siblings, John Fleischer, Susan Cunningham (Chris), and Karen Hooper (Kim), step-children Angela Sem (Sophea) and Harold Hurley (Michelle), and step-grandchildren Lily and Cale Sem, Gabriel and Carmen DeSantiago (Hector). She also leaves a lively African gray parrot named Seneca and an amazing dog named Oso, who have since found new homes.

Gayle attended Kent State University in Ohio during a tumultuous time and was there during the unfortunate college demonstrations on May 4, 1970. As a result, she was required to temporarily transfer and chose University of Honolulu with her former Hawaiian roommate. This sparked a keen interest in travel for Gayle. She completed her Bachelors degree in Social Work and eventually joined the Peace Corps where she was assigned missions in Nicaragua and Chile leading her to become fluent in Spanish. Gayle also lived again in Hawaii, the Virgin Islands and California. She loved swimming and was happy being anywhere with water and sand. She called herself a mermaid and obtained her Master Scuba Diver's certification.

Much of Gayle's career was spent working in fine dining wherever she lived and then in Las Vegas where she moved to escape the Ohio winters. She rejoined the hospitality industry in Las Vegas at Harrah's where she met her husband Jim. They enjoyed many travels together including to Romania to research our ancestors and Alaska where they saw the northern lights, which was enthralling to her. She loved gardening, and cooking for others - she often referred to herself as a foodie. Gayle also loved telling long stories - we will miss her creative narrations, her positive attitude towards life, her sense of humor, and adventurous spirit.

Gayle will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson in Nicholasville, Kentucky with her husband in a private interment at a later date.
