Janice Marie Hughes

Janice M. Hughes, 66, of Las Vegas, passed away after a long illness on January 8th, 2024 in Las Vegas

Janice was born in Dearborn, MI  to James and Lavonne Oakley on June 6, 1957.  

At the age of 27 Janice was stricken with debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis. Before Janice became ill she was the manager for the Detroit Parade Company. Although Janice was ill she raised three young girls on her own and put herself through college.  In 1995 she met her future husband James Hughes in Windsor Ontario. They married in 1997 and moved to Las Vegas where she resided with her husband for 26 years until the time of her passing. 

Janice was a strong, conservative woman who loved her family, country and God. She enjoyed playing poker and was a huge football and hockey fan. She had a great spirit and personality  and was one of those people you were happy to have known! Janice will be greatly missed by family and friends. 

Janice is preceded in death by her father, James Oakey.  She is survived by James Hughes (husband), daughter’s Cheri Gilliam, Jennifer Bergeron and Amy Gilliam. Also survived by her brothers James and Robert Oakley, mother Lavonne Oakley, grandchildren Devon Targgart and Grace Bergeron,  her dear sister-in-laws Laurie and Stacey Hughes, Teresa Oakley and brother-in-law Robert Hughes as well as 13 nieces and nephews, 9 great and 4 great great nephews and nieces.

Janice was placed to rest in a private ceremony at  Davis Funeral Home on Jan 12th 2024 in Las Vegas. Her ashes will be brought back to Belleville Michigan for the celebration of life ceremony.
