Joseph Christobol Miera Jr

April 27, 1953 — February 3, 2026

Las Vegas

Joseph Christobol Miera Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 3, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a brief illness.

Joe was born on April 27, 1953, in Ogden, Utah, at St. Benedict’s Hospital, to his parents, Joseph C. Miera Sr. and Margaret Francis Mitchell. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1971. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably for two years before his discharge. Following his military service, Joe worked at Hill Air Force Base, where he remained until his retirement. In 2016, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he spent his final years surrounded by his mother and siblings.

From a young age, Joe had a deep love for baseball. He was an All-Star pitcher in multiple leagues and traveled across several states playing the game he cherished. He had the opportunity to join the minor leagues as a pitcher, but instead chose to enlist in the Army. During his military service, Joe worked as a mechanic on Huey helicopters used during the Vietnam War era.

A lifelong New York Yankees fan, Joe rarely missed a game. He was also an avid bow hunter, spending many seasons hunting elk and deer with friends throughout the Uinta Mountains. Fishing was another passion, and for a time he proudly held the record for catching the largest Tiger Muskie out of Pineview Reservoir. Golf became his next great love, and he played for as long as his body would allow — often found on the course with a set of clubs and a case of Coors Light close by.

In 1979, Joe married Judy Speigle (Bishop), and together they had three beautiful children. Although they later divorced, Joe loved his children in the only way he knew how and spoke of them often.

Joseph is survived by his children: Joseph C. Miera III, and his children Jaxon, Mylie, and Sophi Miera of Riverdale, Utah; his daughter Melanie Ann Miera, and her children Ashton and Braylee Ernsberger of Ogden, Utah; and his daughter Samantha Leigh Miera (fiancé Steven Hall) and her son Court Miller of Roosevelt, Utah. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Francis Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sisters Linda Carlson (Ken), Lorraine Perriera (Tony), and Marlene Boothe; and his brother Vic Miera, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C. Miera Sr., and his sister, Joanna R. Miera.

We will miss you, Dad. We hope you have finally found peace. You are loved and will never be forgotten.
