Marvin Max Janeway

September 8, 1938, until August 16, 2019

Marvin M. Janeway, Max, son of Dan and Myrtle Janeway born in Bear Hollow, Arkansas. Coming from humble beginnings, Marvin's parents were sharecroppers in parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

As a young boy his family including siblings; Ernestine, Pauline, Lois, and Donald. Marvin is also preceded in death by a sibling Edith that passed at the age of 2 years old, Moved to Santa Ana, California.

His mother Myrtle Janeway, was a homemaker and avid Quilter and collector of all things collectible including going each month to the bus station and bidding on unclaimed treasures of boxes from the Station.

Max's Father, Dan Janeway, was one of the many tradesmen that helped build Hoover Dam. He was also a coal miner acquired black lung but still lived to be 87 years old. Dan retired from El Torino Marine Base in Orange County, California

Max is somewhat of a miracle. In the 1940's he survived spinal meningitis twice. The second time he was twelve years of age. Max is in the medical journals as one of the patient’s receiving the highest dose of Penicillin antibiotics in the 1940s.

As a teenager, he enjoyed being doted on by his sisters and attending high school. His favorite hobby was belonging to a car club called "The Outlaws"

Max spent many a weekend at the Santa Ana Speedway.

When Max was 20 years old he met his future wife Marilyn Newman on a blind date. Both soon discovered that at the age of 3 years their parents lived across the street from one another.

Together, Max and Marilyn had 4 children; Randall Allen Janeway, Craig Lee Janeway, Stacy Yvonne Janeway, and Cary Ann Janeway.

All of which are still living. Max Janeway is survived by his Grandchildren;

Timothy Lee Janeway (32), Devin Archer Janeway (28), Ryan Patrick Janeway (25), Nicholas Quin Janeway (23), Shane Jeffrey Larason (29)

Rosalee Elisabeth Murphy (18) of Las Vegas, and Laine Ashley Blackmon (22) of Reno, Nevada.

That only includes the children they had together. The Janeway household was a haven for all and every teenager in need that befriended the Janeway family. James Bellamy, Bruce Nelms, and David Brannon to name a few that called our house home.

Max first moved to Las Vegas in the 1970s bringing his children. He learned the game of Craps and Broke in at The El Cortez and later worked for the Frontier Hotel in dealing dice until 1996. Max was Dice Floorman when he left the Frontier and went to work for MGM as a Dice Boxman until his retirement in 2003.

Max settled into retirement taking care of his Granddaughter Rosalee Murphy and being a Doting Grandpa. Max continued to care for his loving wife Marilyn. Max was a very loving, honest, quiet-spoken husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all the loved and knew him.
