Michael Robert Herlihy

Michael Robert Herlihy, 62, was raised in Northridge, California and passed away on September 30, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mike was born in Los Angeles to John and Mary Herlihy on April 25, 1959. Mike attended Our Lady of Lourdes elementary school and Crespi Carmelite High School. In high school, he was active in theater and acted in Bye Bye Birdie and played the lead in Jesus Christ Superstar. Michael went on to attend Cal State Northridge before moving to Sacramento, California and attending Sacramento City College and volunteered for Hospice. Sacramento is also where he met his future wife, Cindy Hunter. Mike graduated from San Jose State University with his Occupational Therapy Bachelor of Science degree prior to moving to Henderson, Nevada. Mike and Cindy were wed in Las Vegas. They made their home and had 2 wonderful children Hunter Kayla Herlihy and Griffin Michael Herlihy in Henderson, Nevada. Mike was a fantastic father and loved watching his kids in sports, music, cub/boy scouts and all of their endeavors. Mike loved working as an Occupational Therapist. He was the Director of Rehab at Boulder City Hospital and at HealthSouth before starting a long stint working in Home Health. Mike enjoyed his patients and worked over 20 years in the Las Vegas Valley helping patients and caring for others. Mike was an avid artist, he made sculptures, jewelry and many other forms of art. Mike won awards for his artwork. Mike was also a consummate DIY guy. He loved making things better than he found them. He remodeled his share of homes, designed swimming pools, built decks, wine cellars, and rebuilt cars. He truly loved working with his hands. Mike found comfort in music and dabbled in playing the guitar. He was a caring and loyal friend, the life of the party, who would most definitely put a smile on your face. He loved his dogs, Coco who has passed away and 6-year-old Layla, both Labrador Retrievers, who provided him companionship and love.   Michael had a special kindness and empathy for his fellow humans and would always do thoughtful things to make others happy.

Mike was preceded in death by his brother Jim. Mike is survived by his children Hunter and Griffin, and their mother Cindy, his parents Jack and Mary Herlihy, his siblings Eileen (Ken), Tom (Lorri), John, and Cary (Frank), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, who loved him very much.

The Celebration of Life for Mike will be held Monday, November 8th, 11AM-2PM at The Terrace. 1361 W Warm Springs Road, Henderson, Nevada 89014 and it is open for all who knew Michael to attend.
