Ouida Leach Reid

Ouida Leach Reid, known by many of her friends as “Rita” passed away in Las Vegas NV January 6, 2022 two months shy of her 85th birthday.

She was born in Lake Forest Illinois graduating from Lake Forest High School before attending and graduating from Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO.

She taught primary school and lived in Deerfield, Lake Forest, The Village of Lakewood and Chicago Illinois before moving to Las Vegas NV in 2003.

Ouida is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Roger Reid of Las Vegas, and sister Carole Richie of High Point NC.

She led a full life surviving asthma as a child, polio as a teen, several auto accident injuries, and Multiple Sclerosis starting in her 40’s. She travelled the world despite her serious health and mobility problems - and never complained.

Throughout her life Ouida always exhibited an indominable - never quit - spirit and talents in multiple areas. She was a dedicated duplicate bridge player, exhibited amazing fashion and color sense for clothing, household furnishings, art, and made original unusual unique costume jewelry. She was truly an artist.

In public, she was always very well dressed. She always wanted to look good and worked hard in finding and arranging the right thing to wear. As an accomplished seamstress, she often re-made clothing to fit her diminutive frame.

We will miss her smile and company. Ouida was an original, most unique in many ways. Those who knew her admired her and possibly some were jealous of her, but she was hard not to like and always fun to be with.

When she recently had a string of additional physical problems, her poor body finally could not take any more, and although the hospital teams tried their best, she was unable to win this last battle.
