Rosemary LaTortue, age 70, of Las Vegas, NV, died on February 25, 2026. Born January 9, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York, to Moravia LaTortue, Sr. and Rillie Lee LaTortue, Rosemary was the eldest daughter among nine children.
Rosemary attended The City University of New York (CUNY) Baruch College where she majored in Economics. She went on to bring dedication to every job she held. Early in her career, she held administrative positions at City University of New York (CUNY), and she went on to be a decades-long federal employee. At the time of her passing, Rosemary was a night employee at the United States Postal Service mailing plant in Las Vegas.
As the eldest sister and default babysitter in a large family, Rosemary will forever be lovingly remembered as The One in Charge. As a self-described “hippie”, Rosemary embraced a life of personal freedom, from her earliest adult years in Greenwich Village, to every community she claimed as home. She was both private and outgoing. She traveled nationally and abroad, collecting friends, stories, various trinkets, and broad knowledge of different cultures.
Rosemary loved knitting and crocheting. Her excellence in the “bistitchual” craft garnered admiration from those who knew her and she was always willing to teach and share her craft. From beautiful scarves to socks, Rosemary kept her needles flying.
Rosemary is survived by her siblings, Gary LaTortue, Moravia LaTortue, Jr., Barbara LaTortue, Valerie LaTortue-Hussein (Janis), Jean LaTortue, Oba LaTortue, and nieces and nephews, Tamisia LaTortue, Priscilla Acevedo, Moravia LaTortue III, Adrian LaTortue, Andree LaTortue, Oba LaTortue, Jr., Imani LaTortue, Abdul-Rahim Hussein, Abdul-Rahman Hussein, Mohammed Hussein, and Adrianna LaTortue. She is preceded in death by her parents (Moravia and Rillie), a sister, Georgette LaTortue, and a brother, Ricardo Knox.
The family wishes to thank all who have expressed condolences. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a charitable donation to your favorite organization on behalf of Rosemary.
